Matt resides in the town of Marshfield with his wife Suzanne and their three children, Cara, Coleman and Caitlin. Matt has volunteered with the Boy Scouts, their local elementary school, youth sports and other activities.
Matt grew up in the towns of Scituate and Kingston in Plymouth County. He went to grade school in Kingston and graduated from Silver Lake Regional High School. Matt was a Boy Scout in Kingston Troop 480 and earned the rank of Eagle Scout. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in History from The College of the Holy Cross where he was a member of Phi Beta Kappa, The National Jesuit Honors Society, Class President and co-founded Holy Cross Cares Day – an annual day of community service that has spread to locations across the United States through the Alumni Association. After college, Matt attended Boston College Law School, graduated with a Law Degree and became a member of the Massachusetts Bar.
As an Attorney, Matt has dedicated himself to using his education to serve others. For ten years, he worked as an Assistant District Attorney, protecting people, their property and working to achieve a just result in the criminal cases he prosecuted. As an Assistant District Attorney, Matt worked on the Motor Vehicle Homicide team, as the State Prison prosecutor and the Deputy Chief of District Courts.
In 2007, Matt ran for and won a seat on the Marshfield School Committee. During his work with the schools, Matt served for 7 years as an Attorney Coach of the award winning Marshfield High School Mock Trial team, helped build the Marshfield Playground at Library Plaza, served on the committee for Full Day Kindergarten, and served on the Building Committee for the new Marshfield High School which opened in 2014.
Matt continued his service to Marshfield when he ran for a seat on the Marshfield Board of Selectman. For 6 years, Matt focused on creating teams and hiring professional staff who have accomplished many goals for the residents of his town. He hired Marshfield’s Police Chief, Fire Chief and Town Counsel. Matt established the first Plymouth County Med Return box in order to dispose of unwanted prescription medications and he created the Marshfield Drug Task Force as an answer to the Opioid Epidemic. During Matt’s two terms, Marshfield was awarded its highest bond rating as recognition of the fiscal policies Matt implemented with his colleagues.
In 2014, Matt was elected Register of Probate for Plymouth County. As Register, Matt has focused on creating efficiencies within the Registry that will improve quality and speed of service to Plymouth County families. During Matt’s first term, he implemented cross training of all staff members and reorganized the front counter experience of both Registry Offices in Plymouth and Brockton. Matt has worked to provide public access terminals for research, computers and printers for the Attorney of the Day ands made essential forms available for the public in our lobby.
